Name: Handsome Jack Gender: Male Orientation: Straight Build: Lean, toned Hair: Dark brown with a distinguished grey stripe Eyes: Right eye blue, left eye green Distinguishing Features: The mask, hiding a Vault symbol scar on his face. Likes: Power, being rich, robots, tech, Hyperion, Eridium experimentation, killing buttloads of bandits Dislikes: Vault Hunters, bandits, the Crimson Raiders, people pissing him off, Claptrap Hobbies: Progress Personality: Jack is a stone cold bastard. No. Really. He is. He is out for his own agenda, more than willing to ride the power trip that comes with owning an influential Corporation. He will stop at nothing to achieve his goals, killing who he needs to kill and leveling everything else. He's bound to destroy them all, the Crimson Raiders, and anything else that is keeping Pandora a savage land. Whether it is genuine or not, he seems to have affection for his daughter, and was pushed to a humming rage when the Vault Hunters killed Angel- even if she did want them to kill her. While his treatment of her was inhumane, it hinted at a shred of good he might still have. He tries to explain himself- that he had to restrain Angel because of what she did to her mother. Again, the truth behind whether or not it was "for her own good" is debatable. He even strangles a man to death for mentioning his deceased wife. His true forms of love are buried deep, though messing with the things he cares about the most is a quick way to get on his shit list. It's safe to say he doesn't care much for any other human being since his wife. He also has a very dark, and slightly immature sense of humor. Through everything he does, he uses sarcasm, snark, and over-the-top imagery to patronize or knock the other person down a couple pegs. He apologizes for nothing... and if he did, it was always sarcastic. He finds murder to be hilarious when he's the one committing it, and most likely gets a head rush over being "the hero" and being the one to turn Pandora into what he would consider a utopia. Jack is narcissistic. He covers his Vault symbol scar with a moveable mask of his own face for crying out loud. He's completely in love with his own level of awesome and badassery, and is shooting out confidence in every which direction. He calls himself a Hero- trying to civilize Pandora with any force necessary. He's a believer of progress and moving forward with his vision of the future. His emotional and mental instabilities can make it possible that he doesn't take responsibility for his actions-- blaming other people and lying. End result- he gets what he wants, no matter the means. When it comes to women, he can come on fairly strong. He's a little patronizing, but mostly a sweet talker. He uses pet names to just about everyone he talks to. He's been in a relationship with Mad Moxxi, and in the game was currently dating the Sheriff. He stole Moxxi from her last boyfriend, Mordecai. Moxxi and himself broke up on bad terms-- he suspected she was cheating on him so he destroyed her Underdome underground fighting Colosseum... something that she loved dearly. It's not explained how he hooked up with the Sheriff, but she's as ruthless and cold-hearted as he is. They must've been in very great terms during the course of the game-- when the Vault Hunters and Slab King end up causing her death, he seemed legitimately peeved about it. He also hit on Helena Pierce (before he noticed her bitched up face and killed her) and Doctor Samuels (who clearly had disdain for him, but he insisted on calling her Sammy and sweetheart). Memorable Quotes: "You wanna know why I’m trying to awaken the Warrior? Because it’s not enough. This disgusting planet, these stupid, stupid frickin' bandits I defeated how many years ago -- it’s not enough. I want it all. Every planet, every star. Call me old-fashioned, but -- bein’ a god sounds like a hell of a lot of fun" |
Once upon a time, the Atlas Corporation found an ancient vault in the planet of Prometheus that had alien technology and weapons that helped fund and drive the corporation to beat all its competitors. Similar traits to this vault was found on the planet of Pandora, so Atlas set out to place settlements on the world as well in hopes that they would find another vault. When they landed on the planet it was wintertime, and when summer rolled around hordes of alien wildlife came out of hibernation and became a problem. Atlas was unable to find the vault and abandoned the project. The Dahl Corporation then set out to mine Pandora of its resources with the help of criminal labor. At the same time, they set out to find the vault themselves. This hunt for the vault was led by xeno-archeologist Patricia Tannis. Tannis was driven slightly insane during the course of the hunt, her colleagues were killed by Pandora's wildlife, and yet she managed to find proof of the vault. Atlas caught wind of this and sent their private military, the Crimson Lance, to retrieve the information of the vault's location. Dahl left, and the more wealthy and important figures that resided on the planet left-- the remaining populace left to scavenge and deal with the gangs and bandits they had released. Vault Hunters would come to Pandora in search of this treasure. Eventually a band of mercenaries found it, and the Crimson Lance was dispersed. Five years later a new mineral known as Eridium began to flourish out of the planet, grabbing the attention of Hyperion Corporation led by Handsome Jack. Handsome Jack has been out to rule Pandora with an iron fist, and rumors spread about another vault being somewhere in Pandora. A resistance led by Roland, a former Crimson Lance and one of the original Vault Hunters to have found the vault, organized the Crimson Raiders. Later, a new ragtag group of Vault Hunters- each arriving to Pandora for their own reasons- soon became the only hope against Handsome Jack. Now, about Jack. Before the events that unfolded to find the Vault in Pandora there was a man named John. There is a lot about his past that has not been explained or dug into. Pieces of the puzzle include these following clues: the "Vault" symbol on his face, his wife, and his daughter- Angel. He is confirmed to have started out with "humble" beginnings on the planet of Tantalus. He was raised by his abusive grandmother, which in due time he exacted his deadly revenge against. Somewhere along the line, he fell in love with a woman. He eventually takes a job at the Hyperion Corporation, probably to support his wife and budding soon-to-be-family as a programmer. His wife had his child, his baby girl Angel. Angel, however, wasn't your typical child. After a short time of familial bliss, she inherited the "siren" markings. He had to restrain Angel, and tethered her to an interface. He began monitoring Pandora and messing with the events on the planet while working behind his desk. The events that led up and encircled that point in his life changed him, and allowed him to use her as a pawn to get what he wanted from the Vault Hunters. He had the opportunity to gain the fame and fortune, between blackmailing the current president of Hyperion and by his success on the events that led to finding the Vault in Pandora and annihilating the Destroyer. He began calling himself Jack, and expected everyone else to follow suit... save for his superiors that still called him John. His success skyrocketed his status in Hyperion- making strides to take it over. He was using the eye of the Destroyer as a generator for a weapon called the "Eye of Helios" which was made to be strong enough to destroy entire settlements. He attempts to take control of the Eye back from Colonel Zarpedon (who had taken over and attempted to assume control of Elpis). He recruited help of Vault Hunters Athena, Wilhelm, Nisha, and accidentally Cl4P-TP along with Rolland, Lilith and ex-girlfriend Moxxi to get defeat Zarpedon and regain control of the Eye. This goes horribly wrong when he is betrayed by Roland, Lilith and Moxxi. The Eye gets destroyed, and Jack is forced to find new leverage in another vault-- found on Elpis. Finding the Vault, Jack acquires the knowledge of the Eridians from a vault-symbol shaped object. With plans of releasing the Warrior from Pandora, Lilth appears and brands Jack's face with the seal of the Vault, and in the process destroying the object that contained all of the knowledge Jack had just consumed. After going to a hospital, getting his mask created, and murdering the President of Hyperion, Jack took control-- with full intentions to get revenge against the Vault Hunters and Pandora. As Eridium began flowing out of the planet, he set forth to mine the crap out of it and experiment with it, using it as a material to juice the hell out of Angel. Using Angel as a Siren catalyst hooked up with the ECHOnet system, he was able to achieve full surveillance of the planet. Eridium seems to be the only material that is keeping Angel’s powers in check and is the only way to power up the Vault Key to unlock the Vault Creature known as the Warrior. It’s assumed that was the whole reason why he was interested in mining Eridium in the first place, not to mention his own personal experiments with Slag (a by-product of Eridium). During the course of Borderlands 2, Jack is on his own mission to awaken the Warrior. If he wakes it up, he can control it's God-like power, and truly wipe everything out off of Pandora so he can start from scratch to create his paradise. In the mean time, Jack orbits over the planet in his H-Shaped Moonbase to oversee everything, and calculate his next move pretty much throughout the game. Under Jack’s rule, all Claptraps were dismantled (one survived despite his efforts), fought the citizens of New Haven and won- turning it into a warzone and ran out Roland, Lilith, and Mordecai with Wilhelm (a Hyperion cyborg) on his side (his girlfriend, Nisha (the Sheriff) handled Brick), and took over Fyrestone. He built his town, Opportunity, in his image and vision, while continually mining and drilling into Pandora for Eridium. Through and through, he projects himself as a leader and Hero to the planet and that he is wiping out the planet of its plague of bandits and grime. Roland, his resistance, and other unified groups of Pandora fell back to creating their own town of Sanctuary—the home base to the opposition of Handsome Jack. Jack also goes on to lure Vault Hunters to the planet with propaganda and adventure, to lead them into traps with the ultimate goal of killing them. He lures Axton, Salvador, Zer0, and Maya to a trap that was sure to kill them in a train crash, but they managed to survive… and become a thorn in his side. He spends the whole game monitoring their activity, taunting them, and manipulating them. He is able to endanger Sanctuary by executing a full on attack that starts with lowering their defenses… and the resistance is forced to look for the Vault Key and destroy Angel (who up to this point was working for Jack but put on the charade of her helping the resistance). Angel desired to make things right and to destroy her father, and knew that in order for the Vault Hunters to get the key, they had to kill her. Once the Vault Hunters succeeded, Handsome Jack was enraged. He killed Roland and kidnapped Lilith (another Siren) to replace the power that he lost in Angel’s death. He imprisoned her for his own use, juicing up the Vault Key to unlock the door to the Warrior. Through the entire game he was throwing bounties around for the Vault Hunters and Resistance. The moment Angel died, he renounced it so he could have the satisfaction of revenge himself. In the end, he is able to awaken the Warrior, but the Vault Hunters managed to take it down. In his last breaths, he spoke in utter disbelief and was a bit of a sore loser- trying to explain that what he was going to create was something greater than the lawless wasteland Pandora was. In the end, he is either killed by the Vault Hunter or Lilith. With the use of the key, the Vault Hunters became aware of other Vaults in existence, and thus ends the story.
